About The Program

Total Hours: 1,080
Classes begin each fall for Rockland BOCES’ full-time Practical Nursing program. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Practical Nursing given by the New York State Board of Nursing.

All PN information sessions will be held via Zoom video conferencing. To access an upcoming virtual session, contact Evelyn Torres via email at etorres@rboces.org.

The Rockland BOCES Practical Nursing program is accredited by the New York State Education Department’s Office of the Professions.

Step 1: Information Session

Attend a mandatory Information Session via Zoom video conferencing. Select an information session date and email your request to etorres@rboces.org.

Step 2: Entrance Test

Register online for an entrance test date for the 2023-24 academic year. A credit card is required to complete the online test reservation, along with a computer or laptop with internet service and a web camera (if taking the test online, 10AM-12PM) and photo ID (if taking the test in-person at the West Nyack campus, 2-4PM). See dates for both online and in-person tests below.

Step 3: Interview

Participate in an interview after passing reading and math tests. Please be prepared to submit completed application, written recommendations and required paperwork for your interview appointment. Missing documents will delay the application process and place the applicant on a waitlist.

Step 4: Acceptance Letter

Receive an acceptance letter for admission into the Practical Nursing program. Applicants who have successfully completed steps 1-3 will be notified via email on either April 28, May 31 or June 23.

Step 5: Financial Aid Appointment

Schedule an appointment with the financial aid advisor upon receipt of the acceptance letter. You must complete a financial aid application before scheduling an appointment. Be prepared to present income tax information. Self-pay applicants must sign a payment agreement. It is important to meet with the financial aid advisor to finalize all required documentation by the deadline date (July 28, 2023). Contact the Financial Aid Office by calling (845) 627-4830 or emailing etorres@rboces.org.

Step 6: Mandatory Orientation

All students are required to attend one orientation session. If a student does not attend one of the orientations listed below, they will be removed from the class roster.

Important Notes

  • Dates for testing or interviews are subject to change due to inclement weather or staff availability.
  • Two written professional recommendations are required at the interview appointment.
  • Final appointment slot for financial aid is July 27, 2023 – no exceptions.
  • Financial aid deadline to finalize all paperwork is July 28, 2023 – no extensions (pending Federal Regulations, cost of attendance and tuition before public release).
  • Fees are due no later than August 4, 2023 – no extensions.
