Our final Rockland BOCES “MOVER of the Month” (December) of 2021 is Samantha “Sammi” Lopez from the Jesse J. Kaplan School! Sammi has made great progress through the MOVE™ program and her teacher, Rosemarie Giannella, could not be more proud.
Sammi is able to walk long distances with little to no assistance. She maintains an upright position while walking and looks straight ahead – eager to turn a corner in both the hallways and in her education. Sammi stands at her desk to do her favorite activity (playing the piano!) and at the sink to wash her hands. “Sammi is always happy and striving to be better,” said Rosemarie. “I cannot express how much Sammi has accomplished in such a short amount of time. This honor is so well deserved.” Keep up the great work!
Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Every child deserves the right to MOVE™.
