Our final “MOVER of the Month” for the 2020-21 academic year is here! Congratulations to Gabriella “Gabby” Fenfert, our Rockland BOCES Jesse J. Kaplan School honoree for June! Gabby came to Kaplan in September when she was just learning how to sit up from a lying-down position, which she can now do all on her own. Whether it is going for a walk, crawling or practicing her sit-to-stand, Gabby is determined to MOVE™.

She also enjoys playing with adaptive toys and reading sensory books in the classroom. “One of Gabby’s favorite activities is reading books and she loves sensory,” said Physical Therapist Kristin Mullen. “She gets to feel and hear the stories through textures and take part in turning the pages. Gabby has grown leaps and bounds and we are so proud of her.” Keep up the great work!

Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Every child deserves the right to MOVE™.
