High School Equivalency (GED® Test)
Rockland BOCES provides preparation classes for the General Educational Development Test (GED® Test), which has replaced the TASC® exam as a pathway to a high school equivalency diploma. The GED® Test assesses four subject areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Preparation classes are free to students ages 21 and older who have not earned a U.S. high school diploma or equivalency. Students 18-20 years old may attend for a low, monthly fee. Classes are held mornings or evenings in Nyack and evenings in Spring Valley.
Students must attend an orientation to enter the preparation program. All students are given an assessment to determine competency levels in reading and mathematics. Curriculum is then tailored to their needs. Call (845) 348-3500 to get started!
The TASC assessment was discontinued on December 31, 2021. Scores from passing TASC subtests (2014-2021) and passing GED® Test subject tests (2002-2013) can be used toward meeting the requirements for a High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma. GED® Test had previously served as the New York State HSE exam from the 1940’s through 2013.
