Congratulations to Shimmy Rottenberg, our Rockland BOCES Jesse J. Kaplan School “MOVER of the Month” for December! Shimmy is a second-year student at Kaplan and has already made significant strides. With the encouragement and support of our staff, he learned how to walk long distances and can now stay on-the-go for at least ten minutes without needing to rest.
Shimmy is a great helper and loves to contribute when given the opportunity. He takes pride in walking to the sink and washing his own dishes after lunch. The possibilities for growth are endless through the MOVE™ program. Shimmy also recently began to stand for up to five seconds on his own. His motivation to always be on the move inspires those around him to do the same. We are so proud of all Shimmy has accomplished so far!
Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Every child deserves the right to MOVE™.
