Congratulations to Diego Rodriquez-Ramirez, our Rockland BOCES Jesse J. Kaplan School “MOVER of the Month” for January! With the help of Kaplan Teacher’s Assistant Susan Norfleet, who is also Diego’s one to one, he has learned how to overcome and control behaviors that previously impeded his progress.

Diego not only enjoys walking now, but can do so for at least 15-20 minutes – increasing his strength, endurance and awareness skills. He can also transition more readily through doorways leading to different classrooms and outdoors, where he explores the sensory playground. Back inside, Diego is working on his sitting skills. He is able to sit for 30-second intervals (an improvement from three seconds) in a standard classroom chair with close supervision. We are so proud of all Diego has accomplished so far!

Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Every child deserves the right to MOVE™.

Contact the Rockland BOCES Jesse J. Kaplan School at (845) 627-4797 to learn how MOVE™ can help someone in your life.
