Congratulations to Luke Skau, our Rockland BOCES Jesse J. Kaplan School “MOVER of the Month” for November! Luke came to Kaplan when he was just five years old and has made tremendous progress with his strength and communication skills.

Luke maintains an active schedule throughout the day and takes full advantage of the equipment made available to him. He uses the high/low table, stander, ball and p-pod chairs to participate in all classroom activities. In the aquatic center, Luke is able to float with minimal assistance and experience being independent.

Luke is able to take ownership of his unique education with the help of his Tobii communication device. “He uses it to greet people and to request a need or position change,” said Speech Therapist Elizabeth Sherman. “We are so proud of how far he has come,” added Physical Therapist Kristin Mullen. Keep up the great work!

Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Every child deserves the right to MOVE™.
